As part of its commitment to the preservation of biodiversity and ecosystems, the Fondation d’entreprise Hermès has supported Brainseeders since 2015. In Morocco, this association promotes the transmission of skills that respect local craft practices, in a strong echo of the Foundation’s commitments and values.

A not-for-profit association founded in 2014, Brainseeders aims to support educational projects and to encourage the development of ecological methods within a broader sustainable and environmentally responsible programme. It is to this end that is has helped to run several successful projects in the rural provinces of Ouezzane and Taounate in northern Morocco. A dozen villages benefit from its actions, which are developed in response to local environmental training needs.

Creative workshops and technical skills training are offered, adapted for different age groups. For the youngest, this translates into an initiation into artistic disciplines, in line with the holistic approach to education that the association defends. For adults, training sessions are organised to address the most immediate needs of each village and cover areas such as the transmission of water management techniques, local habitat and environment design, restorative agricultural practices and the production of vegetable crops and seeds.

The goal of these programmes is to encourage the independence of participants, who can go on to become educators in turn. This is the case with an ecological garden run by a team of former participants who trained in a Brainseeders programme at a teaching centre in Dar Lil Kul, in  Ouezzane province. Open to all, the garden is conceived as a pedagogical centre for the diffusion of agro-ecological techniques. In the Taounate province, a second pedagogical centre has been created thanks to the support of the Foundation.
