A launchpad for young talents in the performing arts
Danse élargie
Through its Artists in the Community programme, the Fondation d’entreprise Hermès seeks to ensure that the talents of tomorrow can pursue artistic careers and flourish in their chosen fields today. Artists in the Community promotes the transmission of skills through professional training with a range of support for existing initiatives as well as a specific bursary programme designed to help students facing financial difficulty to train for careers in the performing arts. Each of these initiatives will contribute, in time, to the renewal of the performing arts scene.

While reflecting on the pressing social issues affecting the contemporary world, the Artists in the Community programme also aims to support young talents at every stage of their journey, promoting access to the performing arts for all those who aspire to a professional artistic career in this domain. The Foundation has devised targeted actions to help future performers at three key stages in their careers, offering a range of forms of institutional support.

Prepare for the exams

Accessing the training programmes offered by dance and theatre schools represents a decisive moment in the career of aspiring performers. These highly competitive and codified entrance exams call for rigorous preparation, so as to ensure young artists can undertake them in the best possible conditions. The Foundation therefore supports two schemes, Prépa'Théâtre 93 and Élan, a school for equal opportunities in the world of dance, both of which offer demanding and tailored support to aspiring artists from less privileged social backgrounds. By gaining access to professional training, these young artists help to enrich France’s artistic scene.

Support during the studies

So that every student can devote themselves fully to their studies and training in dance, theatre, circus or puppetry, the Foundation has created the Artists in the Community bursary scheme for economically disadvantaged young performers. This means-tested financial support helps them to ensure that their basic needs are met throughout their studies. The Foundation also supports two other initiatives, the Free Dance School of Maré in Brazil and Camping in France, which both offer students the chance to complement and complete their professional training in new environments.

Present the new talents

Once they have graduated, young artists can embark upon their careers in earnest. This moment represents a challenging transition, one that has led the Foundation to extend its commitment to students who receive the Artists in the Community bursary by inviting them to produce a collective work in professional conditions. In 2022, the first cohort presented Panorama at the Théâtre de la Cité Internationale in Paris, followed by a second, who staged Sweat, Glitter and Moolah in 2023 at Les SUBS in Lyon. In 2024, a third group participated in Transmission Impossible at the Festival d'Avignon. Much like the Danse élargie competition, which the Foundation has supported since its inception, each of these creations acts as a springboard for revealing young talents.
