As part of the Fabrique d’expériences programme led by Hortense Archambault, director of the MC93, Régine Chopinot carried out her residency in Bobigny in the form of a series of research-creation laboratories. She was supported by a young artistic team made up of designer Grégory Granados, dancer Ixepe Sihaze, percussionist Curro Escalante Vargas, sound engineer Nicolas Barillot, videographer Jean-Baptiste Warluzel and dancer Julien Robles.
Over the course of a series of weekends entitled “Danse Espace Rythme”, Copinot showcased her work to the public, who were invited to take part in key moments of the in situ creative process by participating in workshops or joining a working session. Thanks to these encounters and moments of exchange, Chopinot forged close bonds with her (young) artists and dancers as well as with members of the local community in Bobigny, as she worked to develop her new piece.
As the residency draws to a close, her work now has a title: top. A kind of matrix to be activated through dance, acting and choreography, top features a changing cast that is constantly renewed through arrivals and departures. Shaped by the memory of the people, places and improvisations that made up the residency, this piece bears the traces of the collective adventure of which it is the culmination. Throughout this three-year project at the MC93, the Fondation d’entreprise Hermès accompanied Régine Chopinot, a veritable Artist in the Community deeply engaged with the inhabitants of the Seine-Saint-Denis region.
